5 Tips for Caring for Yourself During a Move
When you’re in the middle of a relocation project, self-care might be the first thing to fall by the wayside. Moving is simultaneously stressful and exciting, and many people don’t appreciate how much planning is involved until they’re waist-deep in details. With a little bit of foresight, you can still take good care of yourself, even if you’re on a tight schedule with a hundred things on your to-do list. Here’s how.
1. Figure out the Logistics First
Coordinating and planning your move can be stressful, so getting the logistics figured out can lift a weight from your shoulders. As soon as you know your desired moving date, start calling moving companies to request quotes and schedule their arrival. And, if you want to do yourself an even bigger favor, be sure to hire us to pack up your items as well.
2. Declutter and Pack Early
The sooner you start sorting through your stuff, the more time you can give yourself. Waiting until the last minute and rushing through everything will make your stress levels even higher.
3. Take Frequent Breaks
It’s unhealthy to work on any project for hours on end without allowing yourself some breaks. Give yourself time to step outside, take a few deep breaths and maybe walk around the block. Your mental health will thank you.
4. Have Realistic Expectations
Even the most carefully planned moves can be stressful and hectic. Too often, people start a relocation project unprepared for everything it will entail, and are then surprised when they feel so anxious and harried. If you go into this process with your eyes wide open, you will be ready to handle any curves that come your way.
5. Ask for Help
Whether you recruit family and friends with pizza or hire experienced professional movers and packers, you’ll need help at some point. Moving is too big a project to tackle as a solo task, so don’t try to turn it into one!
Ultimately, eating balanced meals, staying hydrated, getting plenty of sleep every night and taking lots of breaks are a must throughout the decluttering, packing and moving process. By focusing on your self-care, you can make every task more enjoyable and less stressful.
